Newsome Qualifies for Prestigious Dogwood Invitational|

University of Cincinnati sophomore men’s golf player Emerson Newsome (Hoschton, Ga./Mill Creek) fired a 2-under par 70 in an 18-hole open qualifier on Monday to finish among nine qualifiers for the prestigious Dogwood Invitational, June 26-29 at Druid Hills Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga.
One of the top 15 amateur golf tournaments in the nation, the Dogwood Invitational is an internationally ranked golf event that began in 1941.
The tournament begins Wednesday at 8 a.m. ET. Newsome will tee off at 9:39 a.m.
Newsome joins Michael Balzer (University of South Carolina Beaufort), Riley Davenport (Charlotte), Sam Jackson (Thomas University), Taehyung Kim (Darton State College), Garrett King (Frederica Golf Club), Charlie Saxon (Oklahoma), Gus Wagoner (Armstrong Atlantic State University) and Travis Williamson (Armstrong Atlantic State University) as qualifers. Conner Godsey (University of Montevallo) and Casey O'Toole (Samford) were named as two alternates. The entire tournament field includes 90 players.
Newsome played in every tournament for the Bearcats during the 2012-13 campaign, leading the team with a 75.18 stroke average. As a freshman, Newsome registered three Top-20 finishes, including medalist honors at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship where he posted a season-best 6-under 210. He also finished 17th at the BIG EAST Championship.
