Former UC men's golf player David Tepe posted a 2-over 72 in the first round of stroke play qualifying at the the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Former University of Cincinnati men’s golf player David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) fired a 2-over par 72 Monday and is tied for 50th place after the first round of stroke play qualifying at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at the 7,022-yard, par-70 Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va.
Tepe started on the 10th hole and was even at the turn after posting birdies on holes No. 15 and 17. He finished at 2-over par after bogies on No. 6 and 8. He recorded par on 12 holes during the round.
Tepe is nine strokes behind Eric Sugimoto of San Diego, Calif. Sugimoto posted a record-tying, 7-under 63 in the opening round.
Golfers will play the second round of stroke-play qualifying Tuesday. The field will then be cut to the low 64 scorers for match play, which begins Wednesday. The 36-hole championship match is scheduled for Saturday.
Tepe qualified for the event after posting a 4-under par 67-69=136 in a qualifier on June 10 at Sharon Woods Golf Course in Cincinnati.
Tepe finished his collegiate career at UC following the 2012-13 season where he qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual after winning the BIG EAST Championship.
