CINCINNATI – Coming off a season that saw the Bearcats earn nine top-5 finishes in 11 tournaments and rank as the nation’s most improved team, the University of Cincinnati men’s golf program has announced a challenging 2014-15 schedule.
The changes from the 2013-14 schedule include appearances in tournaments hosted by 2014 NCAA Championship participants Kennesaw State and Middle Tennessee in the fall and College of Charleston and Purdue in the spring season. The Bearcats also will reenter the field at Florida’s State event after a one-year hiatus as well as compete in Indiana’s tournament.
In all, eight of the 11 tournaments on UC’s 2014-15 schedule are hosted by schools that competed in the 2014 NCAA Championship.
“We’ve added five new events this year that has everyone really excited,” UC head coach Doug Martin said. “As our program continues to grow, we must raise the level of difficulty in our schedule.
“We’ll need to be prepared to play every time we tee it up,” Martin said. “Our players will have a great opportunity to see where they stack up on the national landscape.”
The fall season starts at the Marshall Invitational (Sept. 8-9) where the Bearcats tied for second place last season. UC then competes at the Memphis Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16) - an event that moves from the spring season a year ago to the fall slate of tournaments in 2014 - before traveling to the Cardinal Intercollegiate (Sept. 29-30) in Louisville, Kentucky.
UC plays host to the annual Bearcat Invitational (Oct. 6-7) at the Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Kentucky.
The Bearcats also take part in Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Intercollegiate (Oct. 20-21) before concluding their fall slate at The Intercollegiate at the Grove (Oct. 26-28) hosted by Middle Tennessee.
The spring schedule includes College of Charleston’s General Hackler Championship (March 9-10) followed by the Seminole Intercollegiate (March 13-15), Mississippi State’s Old Waverly Collegiate Championship (April 6-7), the Hoosier Invitational (Apr. 11-12) and the Boilermaker Invitational (April 18-19).
The American Athletic Conference Championship (Apr. 26-28) is in Lecanto, Florida.
The 2014-15 Bearcats return every player from last season’s squad, including junior Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome High School), who led the team with a school-record-low 72.86 stroke average.
