Northern Amateur Results
Former University of Cincinnati men's golf player David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) finished second in a playoff Friday at the Northern Amateur at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Ind.
Tepe entered the final round in sixth place, six strokes behind tournament leader and eventual champion, Juan Pablo Hernandez of Mexico City, Mexico. However, Tepe carded the second-best final-round performance of the 88-player field with a 4-under par 68 to pull even with Hernandez, who posted a 2-over 74 Friday. Tepe (73-70-68=211) and Hernandez (72-65-74=211) each finished 54 holes at 5-under par.
Tepe stormed into title contention as the final round developed, carding four birdies and an eagle on the back nine. Tepe's birdie on the 17th hole brought him even with Hernandez. Both players earned a double bogey on the 18th hole to necessitate a playoff where Hernandez edged Tepe.
In late June Tepe finished second in match-play competition at the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Amateur Championship. Tepe qualified for the stroke-play portion of the U.S. Amateur in mid-July.
Tepe finished his collegiate career at UC following the 2012-13 campaign where he qualified for the NCAA Championships as an individual after winning the BIG EAST Championship.
