CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. – University of Cincinnati senior David Tepe fell six shots shy of advancing to match play competition at the U.S. Amateur on Tuesday after finishing the two-round stroke play qualifier at 8-over par 73-76=149, tying for 162nd place.
The top 64 finishers of the stroke play event moved on to participate in the match play competition beginning Wednesday. The cut off ended up at 2-over par 143.
Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) posted a 5-over par 76 on Tuesday at the Cherry Hills Country Club (7,409 yards, par 71). Tepe’s six bogeys and a double bogey offset three birdies during his second round of play.
Bobby Wyatt finished first in the 311-player field at the stroke play event after finishing with a 9-under 64-68=132.
Tepe qualified for the U.S. Amateur after finishing second (2-under par 140) in a two-round qualifier at Coldstream Country Club in Anderson, Ohio on July 30. He is the first Bearcat to participate in the U.S. Amateur since Joe Kastelic in 2010.
