HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - University of Cincinnati junior David Tepe (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East) shot a final-round, 1-under par 70 Tuesday to match his career-best three-round tournament score of 71-73-70=214 to tie for 25th place at the Marshall Invitational at the Guyan Golf and Country Club.

The finish was Tepe's eighth in the Top 25 during his career.  He ended 10 shots behind tournament medalist Alex Redfield of Ohio State, who carded a 69-70-65=204.

"David played a solid tournament," UC head coach Doug Martin said. "He'd be the first to say he left some shots out on the course, but I'm very pleased with his performance to start the fall season. He's been our most consistent player to this point."

The Buckeyes posted a final-round best 274 to claim the team title at 18-under par, 279-281-274=834. The Bearcats finished 14th in the 15-team field with a 298-303-296=896.

UC junior Andrew Desmarais (Union, Ky./Ryle) finished second on the team with a 75-70-75=220 to end the tournament tied for 58th place. Junior Zach Bates (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) registered an 80-72-75=227 and was matched by teammate freshman Jared Howard (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) with a 72-73-82=227 to tie for 73rd place. Sophomore Spencer Mellon (Oakmont, Pa./Central Catholic) carded an even par 71 on Tuesday to finish 87th at 82-85-71=238.

"We have work to do to get better," Martin said. "We did some good things and some bad things in our first tournament. We still need to develop some consistency as a team to move up the standings. We have a couple weeks now to get some things straightened out before we compete again."

The Bearcats next travel to participate in the Cardinal Invitational in Louisville, Ky., Sept. 26-27.
