Men's Soccer Drops First Friendly to Michigan|
Aug 19, 2013
CINCINNATI -The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team fell to Michigan, 2-0, in its first friendly of the season on Monday, Aug. 19, at Gettler Stadium.
Head Coach Hylton Dayes, embarking on his 13th season at the helm of the UC program, entered preseason looking for offense and felt the Bearcats certainly had their chances.
"We hit the post, we had a breakaway saved off the line and for us we need to score when we have the run of play," Dayes said.
Cincinnati recorded 10 shots in the match, five on target. Michigan posted 14 shots in the match, seven on target, including the Wolverines' pair of goals. The tallies came from Colin McAtee (6') and Marcos Ugarte (61').
The Bearcats will play their second friendly of the 2013 preseason on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Bowling Green.
Dayes will be looking for his squad to finish on the offensive end, while also working on a bit strategy in the back.
"We have to finish and make use of the possession," Dayes explained. "Second thing is we've got to do a little better job of defending in transition and being a little more cohesive in the back. We're not quite as tight as we need to be.
The regular season opens on Friday, Aug. 30, when UC faces Northern Illinois at the Bert & Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic at Ohio State.
