Sept. 9, 2007
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team dropped its second straight one-goal match, falling 1-0 to No. 17 New Mexico in the finale of the Nike/TLC Plumbing & Utility Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 9).
Diego Barrera scored the lone goal of the match came in the 30th minute. UNM keeper Mike Graczyk's goal kick found the head of Stephen Brown, who played the ball along to Barrera. Barrera's spinning side volley freshman netminder Miguel Rosales (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) for the decisive tally.
Play was suspended for 35 minutes with 8:17 left in the first half due to lightening in the area. Once action resumed, both teams played the rest of the half without a shot.
UC had a chance to draw even in the final minutes, but Kenny Anaba (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian) was robbed by Graczyk, sending the Bearcats to their third straight defeat to open the season, all on the road.
The Bearcats were shut out for the first time this season. Rosales made three saves in his second straight start.
UC opens its home schedule with a date against crosstown rival Xavier on Sept. 13. The Bearcats and Musketeers are set to kick off at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.
