EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Junior Ashani Walker (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) converted a penalty kick in the first overtime to send the University of Cincinnati men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over SIU Edwardsville and give head coach Hylton Dayes his 100th win as a Bearcat.

UC fell down early for the fourth time this season, allowing a goal in the second minute to SIU's Andrew Kendall-Moullin. The freshman took a rebound off the line and beat UC keeper Alex Gill (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) with a one-timer. The difference in this match was UC was able to rally.

The Bearcats settled down after the early goal, allowing the Cougars just three more shots in the opening period. UC also struggled to generate offense in the first 45 minutes, registering just three shots, with none of those on goal.

The second half was a different story, as UC outshot SIUE, 7-4, in the second 45, with each team putting two shots on target. The Bearcats were able to draw even in the 65th minute when Brad Miguel (High Wycombe, England/Amersham & Wycombe College) converted. The Englishman took a pass from Walker at eight yards and tucked it inside the far post.

SIUE posted two shots on goal in the closing 25 minutes, but Gill was up to the task making a pair of saves to help send the match into extra time.

Not quite four minutes into the first overtime period, Walker converted a penalty kick to clinch UC's second consecutive win and make Dayes the second UC coach to win 100 matches at Cincinnati.

"This was a great team win tonight," Dayes said after the match. "Coming back down a goal on the road to beat a good SIUE team shows the resolve of our team."

The Bearcats will look to keep the streak alive back at Gettler Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 18, when Northern Kentucky travels across the Ohio for a 7:00 p.m. showdown. Tickets are available by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX or visiting GoBEARCATS.com/tickets.
