PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team fell, 2-0, at Providence in its BIG EAST Conference opener this afternoon at Glay Field.

PC (6-2-0, 1-0-0 BIG EAST) got a pair of second-half goals from Marcos Ugarte three minutes apart, sending UC (3-5-0, 0-1-0) to its third straight defeat.

"We gave up two goals in a five-minute stretch off poor marking in the box," said head coach Hylton Dayes. "Credit Providence for taking advantage of our mistakes. We are going through a tough stretch as far as results go and we need to find a way to bounce back."

Cincinnati held a 4-2 lead in shots in a scoreless first half.

In the 62nd minute, Ugarte gave the Friars the lead with his first goal of the season on a header from a Jimmy Petrucelli cross. Just three minutes later, Ugarte tallied again with a tap in off a pass from David Datilus to push the lead to 2-0.

The teams finished with eight shots each, but the Bearcats were shut out for the third time this season.

Joey Barnard (McKinney, Texas/McKinney) made three saves in goal for the Bearcats.

UC returns to Gettler Stadium to take on crosstown rival Xavier on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Kickoff between the Bearcats and Musketeers is set for 7 p.m.
