QUEENS, N.Y. - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team saw its shutout streak stopped at six matches as it dropped a 3-0 decision at No. 12/16 St. John's on Saturday night at Belson Stadium.
The Bearcats had not allowed a goal since a 2-0 loss at Evansville on Sept. 9, a span of 672 minutes.
After a scoreless first half, St. John's got on the board early in the second stanza when Jack Bennett converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute.
With the Bearcats pushed forward looking for the equalizer, St. John's added to its lead on a Jelani Williams goal in the 63rd minute off a pass from Sean Sepe.
Danny Bedoya closed out the scoring with his second goal of the season in the 86th minute.
St. John's posted 11 shots to UC's five and had six corners while the Bearcats earned one.
"Tonight was a tough loss," said head coach Hylton Dayes. "Credit St. John's; they played well and put us under a lot of pressure, which we did not handle well. The first goal was critical because it came so early in the second half."
UC will return to Gettler Stadium on Wednesday, Oct. 10, for a home date with Western Michigan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
"We have to get back to work on Monday to fix a few things and to prepare for a very solid Western Michigan team on Wednesday," said Dayes.
