Bearcats Ousted From BIG EAST Tournament|
Nov. 10, 2007
CHICAGO - The University of Cincinnati saw its four-match winning streak and its 2007 season come to an end with a 1-0 loss at DePaul in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 10) at DPU's Wish Field. The Bearcats finished the season with a 9-10-1 overall record.
"We're obviously very disappointed with the result," head coach Hylton Dayes said. "We played very well for stretches but the critical point in the game was the first five minutes of the second half when DePaul got their goal."
The Bearcats (9-10-1) outshot the Blue Demons (12-6-0), 12-6, on the afternoon, but Steffen Vroom's header in the 50th minute pushed DePaul ahead.
Freshman goalkeeper Miguel Rosales (Aurora, CO/Smoky Hill) made three saves and allowed a goal for the first time in four matches. He finished the season with seven shutouts and a 0.81 goals against average.
UC defeated DePaul, 1-0, on Oct. 6 of this season at Gettler Stadium.
The loss was the final match for UC seniors Kenny Anaba (Westerville, OH/Worthington Christian), Patrick Baxter (Cincinnati, OH/Wyoming), Noah Davidson (Westerville, OH/Westerville North), Amir Ikner (Olathe, KS/Blue Valley West), and Lionel Jackson (Southfield, MI/Birmingham Groves).
"This was a tough way for our seniors to go out," Dayes said. "They have all had great careers and been part of a lot of big wins at UC."
