Gardner, Cummings Open MLS Season

Former University of Cincinnati men's soccer players Omar Cummings and Josh Gardner recently opened the 2014 Major League Soccer Season with the Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City, respectively.

Both players will look to play an instrumental role on their teams this year. Gardner and Sporting KC took home the 2013 MLS Cup, defeating Cummings' Dynamo side in the Eastern Conference Championship.

Sporting KC 0-1 Seattle Sounders
Sporting KC opened their defense of the MLS Cup with a heartbreaking 1-0 loss at Seattle. Gardner was in the starting lineup before being spelled in stoppage time, just one minute before Sounders' Chad Barrett converted for the only goal of the match.

Gardner and Sporting KC have three more matches in March, starting with a March 15 visit to FC Dallas, follwed by a March 22 match at San Jose and home date with Colorado on March 29.

Houston Dynamo 4-0 New England Revolution
Things got off to a much better start for Cummings and Dynamo. Houston scored twice in the first 30 minutes of the match before cruising to a 4-0 decision. Cummings capped the scoring with Dynamo's fourth goal in stoppage time.

Houston and Cummings have a pair of matches remaining this month against two of the league's Canadian sides. Houston visits Montreal on March 15 before hosting Vancouver on March 29.
