The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team traveled across the Ohio River to wrap-up its spring slate of friendlies on Tuesday, April 8, playing Northern Kentucky to a 1-1 draw.

UC had the better of play, especially early in the first half. John Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) and Will Diebold (Coppell, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) each had chances, but could not convert. The Norse had perhaps the best chance of the first half, getting the ball in behind the UC defense, but the backs recovered to knock the ball off the line and the match was scoreless at halftime.

UC again controlled the run of play in the second half, but didn't manage to find the back of the net until the 78th minute when Matt Remaley (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) scored from 25 yards out on a pass from Calvin Opperman (Aukland, New Zealand/Saint Kentigern College). The Norse responded with an equalizer in the 90th minute, scoring inside the six on a free kick from 25 yards out.

"Overall, I thought we played pretty well," said UC head coach Hylton Dayes. "We passed the ball well and controlled the majority of the game, we just couldn't get the second goal to finish it off. Give NKU credit. They're a scrappy team that always plays hard and they scored an opportunistic goal. We just need to close out games better, but we did some good things."

As has been the case all spring, Dayes split the time at keeper between Alex Gill (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) and Taylor Hafling (Louisville, Ky./Male). Gill played the first half, with Hafling seeing action in the second half.

The match wrapped-up the slate of friendlies for the Bearcats this spring. They will host their annual alumni match this Sunday, April 13, at Gettler Stadium. Action will get underway at 1:00 p.m.
