CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team completed its spring slate against former UC soccer alumni on Sunday (May 4) at Gettler Stadium. The match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Will Davis (Sydney, Australia/Reddam House) notched the first goal of the match with a header off of a perfect cross from Lionel Jackson (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves). Shortly after, former UC standout Kenny Anaba tied the match with a shot from 30 yards away that found the back of the net.
The Bearcats would score once more in the half as freshman Branden Stelmak (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) scored in the box on a close range shot that made it past the Alumni goalkeeper John Adams, to push score to 2-1 in the Bearcats favor at the half.
The second half featured more back and forth play as Jeff Henderson scored off of a loose ball in the box to tie the match at 2-2.
Goalkeepers Isiah Castro (Watsonville, Calif./Watsonville) and Alan Hagerty (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) each split time in the net for the Bearcats, and each gave up a goal in the match.
Head Coach Hylton Dayes on the match, "It was a very entertaining match with plenty of goals. It was great to see the alumni back on campus rubbing shoulders with current players. From our standpoint it was an excellent way for us to close out the spring season."
The Bearcats ended their spring with a record of 2-1-3 and Dayes believes many positives came out of the spring season. "This was a very successful spring season for us. Our defense was solid in all of the matches, offensively we would have liked to score more, but I think as a whole we competed well. Overall, I think we made significant progress as a team."
