CINCINNATI - Seven 2010 NCAA Tournament teams, including NCAA finalists from 2009 and 2010, highlight the 2011 University of Cincinnati men's soccer schedule, announced today by head coach Hylton Dayes.
Cincinnati, which advanced to the BIG EAST semifinal for the first time in school history in 2010, will host 10 home matches in 2011, welcoming rival Xavier along with NCAA qualifiers Oakland and West Virginia to Gettler Stadium this fall.
"The 2011 non-conference schedule will once again provide our team with an opportunity to prepare for the rigors of BIG EAST play and build a resume for at-large consideration in the NCAA tournament," Dayes said. "Our fans can look forward to high-quality soccer at Gettler Stadium this year as we set our sights on a return trip to the NCAAs."
UC opens the new campaign with a pair of exhibition contests. The Bearcats welcome Bowling Green on Aug. 15, followed by a road trip to Cleveland State (Aug. 20) to wrap up exhibition play.
The Bearcats open regular-season action against Western Michigan on Aug. 27 in Kalamazoo, Mich. UC then heads to Blacksburg, Va., to take part in the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational. The Bearcats will take on a pair of ACC squads in 2009 national champion Virginia on Sept. 2 and host Virginia Tech on Sept. 4.
Cincinnati returns home to host the BIG EAST adidas Challenge with Louisville on Sept. 9-11. The Bearcats will take on Central Arkansas (Sept. 9) and IUPUI (Sept. 11), while Louisville will host the same two teams on the opposite dates.
The following weekend will feature two more non-conference tests for the Bearcats as they welcome Missouri State (Sept. 16) and NCAA squad Oakland (Sept. 18) to Gettler Stadium.
UC will open BIG EAST play on the road against an increasingly heated rival in Providence on Sept. 24. The Bearcats and Friars have met six times since the Bearcats joined the BIG EAST in 2005 and four of the six have come in the postseason.
The Bearcats return to Gettler Stadium to take on a pair of NCAA tournament teams in crosstown rival Xavier (Sept. 28) and BIG EAST foe West Virginia (Oct. 1). Non-conference play wraps up when SIU-Edwardsville visits UC on Oct. 4.
Consecutive road tests at Rutgers (Oct. 9) and NCAA finalist Louisville (Oct. 12) are followed by home contests against BIG EAST Red Division rivals Villanova (Oct. 15) and DePaul (Oct. 19).
Regular-season play winds down with road trips to Syracuse (Oct. 22) and NCAA participant USF (Oct. 26) before a visit from annual power St. John's (Oct. 29) closes out the campaign.
The Bearcats look to return to Red Bull Arena for the BIG EAST Tournament, which gets underway on campus sites on Nov. 2, with the semifinals and final taking place on Nov. 11 and Nov. 13, respectively, in Harrison, N.J.
