Men's Soccer Adds Six to Roster|

CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati men's soccer coach Hylton Dayes has added six student-athletes to the incoming class that will join the Bearcats for the 2014 campaign. Stefan Bangsund, Terence Carter, Nick Frank, Austin Ladd, Michael McCloskey and John Rutan will don the red and black starting this fall. The group will join the already announced quartet of Jack Clark, Christian Hay, Vebjorn Krovel and Alejandro Garcia as newcomers in 2014.
"We are delighted with the quality in this year's recruiting class," Dayes said. "This class fills all our needs, especially in the attacking area. They are all coming from winning environments, which is important as we continue to develop a championship level program."
McCloskey and Rutan enter the program as true freshmen, while Frank is a redshirt freshman, Ladd is a redshirt sophomore and Bangsund and Carter are both juniors. Frank practiced with the Bearcats this spring while completing his freshman year at UC. Ladd spent two seasons at Louisville, redshirting as a freshman. Bangsund played his freshman campaign at Delaware before spending his sophomore season at Highline College (Washington) and Carter played his first two collegiate seasons at Northeastern.

Led Highline in scoring (eight goals, four assists), while ranking among the top 15 in the conference and helping Highline to third place in the state ... Named Kentwood's offensive MVP as a sophomore, again leading the team in assists and earning second team all-league honors ... Served as team captain as a junior, leading Kentwood in goals (13) and assists (seven) ... During junior season, set the school record for career assists while tying the record for goals ... Named second team all-state while helping Kentwood to a third-place finish in the state as a junior and earning a spot on ESPN Rise's top-10 prospects in Washington ... Did not play for Kentwood as a senior after earning a roster spot with the Seattle Sounders FC developmental team.
Personal: Born March 9, 1994, in Seattle, Washington ... Son of John and Dyana Bangsund ... Has two brothers, Trevan and Brandyn ... Brother, Trevan, plays soccer at Pacific Lutheran University ... Cousin, Cam Weaver, has played professional soccer since 2006, including Major League Soccer stops with Seattle Sounders, San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo.
Dayes on Bangsund: "Stefan is a very technical player. He comes in with experience, having played a year at Delaware and one year at a junior college. He is a versatile player who can play wide or as a central midfielder. We think he's going to fit in very well with our possession-oriented style of play."

Dayes on Carter: "Terence is a great fit for our program. He's an athletic, left-footed player, with excellent size and pace that can play up front, underneath the forward or wide. He is also a proven goal scorer at the college level and will add another dimension to our attack."

Named Wayne's defensive MVP as a junior and Newcomer of the Year as a freshman ... Named to NLL All-Star team as a senior.
Personal: Born Jan. 3, 1995, in Fort Wayne, Ind. ... Son of David and Susan Frank ... Has one brother, Michael, who played baseball at Bowling Green (2009-14).
Dayes on Frank: "Nick played with us in the spring and did well. He worked tremendously hard and proved that he deserved a chance to be on our team. We think he has a chance to develop into a good college player."

Prior to UC: Played in four matches in 2013 at Louisville after bring redshirted as a freshman in 2012 ... At Pickerington, named first team all-district as a senior after scoring 10 goals and nine assists and helping team to a 10-7 record, the best mark in school history ... Recorded two goals and six assists as a junior, earning second team all-league honors.
Personal: Born May 18, 1993, in Gahanna, Ohio ... Son of Lindsey and Ann Ladd ... Has one brother, Allen.
Dayes on Ladd: "Austin should be one of the quickest players on the team. He's a left-footed player with a great engine to get up and down the flank. We look for Austin to compete for playing time at left back or wide midfield."

Prior to UC: Earned three varsity letters in soccer at Olentangy Liberty ... Helped Patriots to state championship game as a sophomore ... Named Cincinnati Soccer Aliance U-16 Player of the Year as a sophomore ... Part of the Columbus Crew Academy developmental program.
Personal: Born April 3, 1996, in Columbus, Ohio ... Son of Mark and Michelle McCloskey ... Has one brother, Kyle.
Dayes on McCloskey: "Michael will compete for playing time as a holding midfielder. He's good in possession and can help start the attack. He comes from the Columbus Crew Academy, where they do a great job of developing players."

Prior to UC: Three-year letterwinner in soccer at Carroll High School ... Helped Patriots to state championships as a sophomore and junior ... did not pay as a senior, when team finished as district runner-up, due to injury ... named second team all-conference and second team all-area as a junior ... Academic All-Ohio selection ... Also earned three varsity letters in baseball.
Personal: Born Nov. 19, 1995 in Fairborn, Ohio ... Son of John and Carol Rutan ... Has two brothers, Joshua and Joseph, and two sisters, Abigail and Ellie.
Dayes on Rutan: "John has tremendous potential. He played as a forward in high school but can also play wide. He's an excellent finisher and is very quick and aggressive in the box. He has a great work ethic and although he's not very big, he's quick and pops up in all the right places around the goal."
The Bearcats open 2014 with an exhibition match against Cincinnati State on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Gettler Stadium set for 7:00 p.m. The regular season kicks-off on Friday, Aug. 29, at Northern Kentucky before Wright State visits UC for the home opener on Monday, Sept. 1, at 7:00 p.m. For the complete schedule, click here.
