Remaley, Diebold Named College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference|
Aug. 13, 2014
CINCINNATI - Two University of Cincinnati men's soccer players have been named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference team by College Sports Madness. Matt Remaley and Will Diebold were both selected to the second team by the website.
Remaley (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) was a second team All-Ohio selection as a junior in 2013, playing in all 19 matches and starting all but one contest. He played the second-most minutes on the team (1,701), helping to solidify the backfield. In his career, Remaley has played both midfield and defense for the Bearcats, scoring two career goals and registering a pair of assists. Remaley will serve as a captain this season, along with senior goalkeeper Taylor Hafling (Louisville, Ky./Male).
Diebold (Coppell, Texas/Jesuit College Prep) also played in 19 matches and made 18 starts last season. The midfielder registered a pair of goals, while assisting on four scores, for a total of eight points which ranked second on the team. Diebold recorded a point in four consecutive matches, during which the Bearcats went 3-1 with wins over sixth-ranked Louisville, IUPUI and Belmont. In a 2-0 win against the Cardinals, he netted the insurance goal in the 24th minute, while he scored the first goal of a 2-1 win over Belmont before assisting on the game winner. During his freshman campaign, Diebold started 14 matches, scoring a goal and two assists while earning TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 100 Freshmen honors.
Remaley and Diebold lead the way as Cincinnati returns one of the most experienced teams in the nation in 2014. The Bearcats are one of just 14 teams in the country to return at least 80 percent of their scoring from a season ago, while they are one of just seven teams nationally to return more than 300 combined starts. Remaley (32 stars) and Diebold (40 starts) account for 72 of those 308 returning starts for Cincinnati.
UC takes the pitch for the first time on Saturday, Aug. 16, for an exhibition match with Cincinnati State. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Gettler Stadium and admission is free. The regular season opens on Friday, Aug. 29, with a match at Northern Kentucky before the home opener on Monday, Sept. 1, against Wright State (7:00 p.m.).
