      TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The 2006 preseason awards list keeps growing for University of Cincinnati men's soccer standout Omar Cummings (Old Harbour, Jamaica/Cincinnati State).  The BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year was named to the College Soccer News preseason All-America Third Team. 


      The senior forward led the Bearcats in scoring in 2005, delivering seven goals and seven assists for 21 points.  He finished the campaign ninth in the BIG EAST in goals, fourth in assists and fifth in points.  A unanimous first team All-BIG EAST selection, Cummings was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Great Lakes Region first team. 


      Cummings is one of just four BIG EAST student-athletes to earn such an honor from College Soccer News.  Defenders Julius James of Connecticut and Greg Dalby of Notre Dame earned first-team honors, USF midfielder Rodrigo Hidalgo was named to the second team.


            UC takes on Michigan State in a exhibition match at the IPFW Soccer Showcase on Thursday, Aug. 17.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at IPFW's Hefner Soccer Complex.  The regular season opener is set for Friday, Aug. 25, at rival Xavier, while the home opener is Tuesday, Aug. 29, against Bradley.  Season tickets and Olympic Sports Passes are available now by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX or logging on to
