Israel Named Preseason All-Conference
Aug. 18, 2014 Release

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second consecutive season, Richardo Israel has been named a Preseason All-Conference selection by the coaches of the American Athletic Conference. The league announced its preseason honors on Monday.

Israel (Free Town, Jamaica/Lennon) was also selected to the preseason list last season, but played just six matches and a total of 181 minutes while battling injuries. As a freshman in 2012, the defender started all 18 contests and led the Bearcats to a school record six consecutive clean sheets and eight total shutouts. He earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie team for his work.

In his career, Isreal has played 24 matches and made 23 starts. He helps Cincinnati be one of the most experienced teams in the nation, as the Bearcats are one of just seven squads in the country to return over 300 career starts in 2014. Israel started alongside Ben Keane (Mount Laurel, N.J./Bishop Eustace) at center back in UC's first exhibition game Saturday, scoring a goal in the fourth minute of a 5-1 decision over Cincinnati State, while holding the Surge to just three shots.

UCF's Romario Williams was voted Preseason Offensive Player of the Year by the coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players, while Sergio Campbell of UConn collected the honor on defense. Temple's Dan Scheck was voted Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. The coaches also selected UConn to win the league this season.

The Bearcats play their second and final exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 22, at Evansville. The regular season opens on Friday, Aug. 29, at Northern Kentucky (7:00 p.m.) before the home opener on Monday, Sept. 1, against Wright State, also at 7:00 p.m.

Season tickets for 2014 can be purchased for as little $10 ($1.25 per match). For more information, visit or call 1-877-CATS-TIX. Keep up with the UC men's soccer team @UCMSoccer.
