// Israel Talks Preseason
Junior defender Richardo Israel (Free Town, Jamaica/Lennon) was named to the American Athletic Conference's Preseason All-Conference team on Monday, despite playing just six matches last season due to injury. Israel was a BIG EAST All-Rookie honoree as a freshmen, as he helped the UC defense record eight clean sheets in 2012. He made his first statement of 2014 on the offensive side of the pitch, heading home an Alan Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) corner kick for the first goal in UC's 5-1 exhibition decision over Cincinnati State on Saturday.

BearcatsTV talked with Isreal about his selection to the preseason all-conference team, as well as what the Bearcats are doing to prepare for their second and final exhibition match at Evansville on Friday.

Rovira

Senior midfielder Alan Rovira assisted on UC's first three goals of the Bearcats' 5-1 decision over Cincinnati State in a friendly over the weekend, earning Man of the Match honors as picked by the coaching staff. Rovira played in two beautiful corners to set up Isreal and junior John Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), while also setting-up Manga off a live ball for another goal.

Head coach Hylton Dayes stressed the importance of Rovira's involvement throughout the season.

"We want Alan to be a guy who's involved," Dayes said after the match. "He's so creative. He had a few assists, played well, kept possession well, his positioning was good and he played good crosses. We're glad he was able to figure so much in the result."

// Preseason Wrapping Up
The Bearcats begin to move into regular season mode following their exhibition match at Evansville on Friday, Aug. 22 (4:00 p.m.). The squad had a few two-a-day practices this week as they ramp up towards the season, but has also had the opportunity for some team building including a trip to Camp Kern in Oregonia, Ohio, and dinner at Coach Dayes' house. The action at Camp Kern was intense, as exhibited by the @UCMSoccer Twitter account.
