The University of Cincinnati men’s soccer team wraps-up exhibition play with a visit to Evansville on Friday, August 22. The match is set for 4:00 p.m. Live stats are available at gopurpleaces.com.

The Bearcats return one of the most experienced teams in the nation, including 10 of 11 starters and over 80-percent of their scoring from a season ago. UC plays its second of two exhibition games at Evansville, creating a match-up of two of the nation’s most experienced teams and a rematch of a 2-0 decision which went in the Bearcats favor last season at Gettler Stadium. Cincinnati took a 5-1 decision from Cincinnati State in its first exhibition game last weekend.

Cincinnati and Evansville met in the 2013 Bearcats Soccer Classic at Gettler Stadium, with UC taking a 2-0 decision to claim runner-up honors on the weekend. Alex Gill (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) made six saves to record the clean sheet while Alan Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) and Ashani Walker (Kingston, Jamaica/Jamaica College) both scored in the first 14 minutes of the match.

With over 80-percent of their scoring and 300-plus career starts returning in 2014, the Bearcats boast one of the most experienced teams in the nation. UC returns 81.3% of its goal scoring from a season ago, a total which ranks 13th nationally and tops in the American Athletic Conference. In addition, the roster features a combined 308 career starts entering the season. That makes UC one of just seven schools in the country to have logged at least 300 career starts.

The Evansville match is one of the few times UC will face a more experienced side, with the Purple Aces returning 97.1 percent of their scoring an 422 combined career starts, both second in the nation.

Cincinnati played its first exhibition match last weekend, taking a 5-1 decision from Cincinnati State at Gettler Stadium. The Bearcats were led by a pair of goals from John Manga (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay), while Alan Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) contributed three assists. Richardo Israel (Free Town, Jamaica/Lennon), Austen Morley (Aberdeenshire, Scotland/The Gordon Schools) and Rantz Bourgeois (St. Amant, La./St. Amant) provided the balance of the scoring for the Bearcats.

The return of Preseason All-American Athletic Conference selection Richardo Israel on defense could be as important for the Bearcats as any of the 11 newcomers on the roster. Isreal was a Preseason All-Conference selection last year, as well, before playing in only six matches due to injury. The Jamaican was instrumental as a freshman in 2012, as UC recorded a school record six consecutive shutouts and a total of eight clean sheets on the year. Israel played in over 1,650 minutes that season, earning All-Rookie team honors in the BIG EAST Conference.
