PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Cincinnati men's soccer forward John Manga was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday (Sept. 24).

Manga, a 6-2 freshman from Lexington, Ky., scored his first career goal - the game winner - in UC's 1-0 win at Pittsburgh on Sept. 22 in the BIG EAST opener for both squads.

The 2011 Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association Mr. Soccer honoree, Manga scored 40 goals and added 13 assists as a senior. He has a goal and an assist in nine matches (five starts) this season.

The Bearcats (4-4-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) have won three straight matches, all by 1-0 scores. UC last posted three consecutive shutouts Sept. 25-Oct. 2, 2010 when it topped Georgetown, 2-0, played Xavier to a 0-0 draw, and defeated Rutgers, 2-0.

Cincinnati returns to Gettler Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 26, against Cleveland State. The Bearcats and Vikings will kick off at 7 p.m.
