CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team will take on No. 9/9 Connecticut in the BIG EAST Championship quarterfinals on Monday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.
The Bearcats (7-4-6, 5-1-3 BIG EAST), undefeated in their last five matches, earned the No. 2 seed out of the Red Division and a bye into the quarterfinal round. Connecticut, the No. 3 seed out of the Blue Division, is 12-2-4 and posted a 5-1-3 BIG EAST record. UConn defeated DePaul, 2-0, on Friday, Nov. 5, in first-round action in Storrs, Conn.
Cincinnati is No. 11 in the nation in goals-against average, posting a 0.60 team GAA. Goalkeeper Matt Williams (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) is 13th in the country with a 0.60 GAA. He also ranks No. 17 in save percentage at .845.
The Bearcats are led offensively by Matt Bahner (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West), who has scored seven goals and added five assists for 19 points from his wide midfield position. Nick Weightman (Lanark, Scotland/St. Aiden's) and Mark Konitsch (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence Senior) have contributed nine and eight points, respectively.
The Bearcats did not play the Huskies in the 2010 regular season.
The Bearcats are 1-3-0 in BIG EAST Tournament matches, having defeated Providence, 2-0, in 2007. UC has not faced Connecticut in the BIG EAST Tournament.
