CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics and Milford Youth Football and Cheerleading are teaming up to produce the inaugural Future Bearcats Gridiron Classic on August 1, 2009 at Nippert Stadium.

Local youth football teams that may be interested in this first-ever opportunity are urged to contact Milford Youth Football and Cheerleading President Mike Stahanczyk at mike.stahanczyk@hylant.com.

Teams will be limited and cheerleaders are encouraged to participate. The festival will feature guest appearances from UC staff members and opportunities to spend time with the Bearcat.

"The principle of this event is not towards winning the game, but to give the kids an opportunity to see the beautiful campus at UC, play on a major college football field, and experience what it would be like to be a Bearcat," said Jason DiTullio from Milford Youth Football and Cheerleading. "We hope that it will give children a UC mentality and provide them with a platform that they can start to set both athletic and academic goals."

The Future Bearcats program was launched in 2008 to help promote the importance of both athletics and education in our community. The program provides youth organizations with the opportunity to attend a UC Football game at a special price and includes on-field opportunities, facility tours, and special guest appearances by UC Football players and coaches.

"UC will continue to create new dream experiences for youth in our community," added Greg Harrell, UC's Manager of Sales and Youth Initiatives. "Several of our student-athletes were introduced to football in these same kinds of programs that are now participating in our events at UC. It is an unbelievable way for UC Athletics to connect to the Greater Cincinnati Area."

The program is growing for 2009 and includes several educational aspects, including Bearcats Fridays that feature members of UC Athletics family visiting area schools.

"We have a unique opportunity at UC to showcase BIG EAST Championship football with our outstanding football program and we cannot imagine a better way to create Future Bearcats than by bringing them into our atmosphere with their teammates, family and friends," said Brad Wurthman, Manager of Sales and Marketing.

Many programs have already started their involvement with Future Bearcats, including: Guardian Angels, Our Lady of Grace, St. Susanna, Dan Beard Council, Summit Youth Football, Batesville Youth Football, St. Ignatius, Colerain Little Cards Youth Football, Oak Hills Youth Football, Sharonville Youth Football, Lakota Tomahawks Youth Football, Mason Youth Football, CYO Youth Football, Reading Youth Football, Southwest Ohio Athletic Association Youth Football, St. Veronica, Winton Woods Youth Football, Mariemont Youth Football, Clermont Northeastern Youth Football, Little Miami, Indian Hill, Kicks For Kids, Milford Youth Football and Cheer, Special Olympics, and Milford Football Club.
