The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics welcomed over 500 youth cheerleaders and dancers and over 1,200 parents and coaches to its second annual Cheer & Dance Team Day for football this past Saturday, September 14th at Nippert Stadium. Cheerleaders and dancers, ages 4 - 18, from across the Cincinnati area, Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee performed with the UC cheerleaders and dancers during halftime of the football game against Northwestern State.
The afternoon started off with a two hour clinic in the Sheakley Athletics Center where the girls practiced the halftime routine they were required to learn prior to the event. The cheerleaders and dancers were separated into three age groups where they reviewed the routine and were lined up for the performance. Parents, coaches, cheerleaders and dancers all enjoyed the atmosphere of the day and were excited to be part of such a fun event.
"What a great time the girls had from Pride Athletics had on Saturday for the Cheer & Dance Team Day for football. The cheerleaders and dance team did a fantastic job teaching the girls the techniques and going over the routine when there were 500 of them. Keep up the great work you do for all the young people," said Lori Soriano with Pride Athletics.
At the beginning of the second quarter, all of the cheerleaders and dancers made their way down to the field for the halftime performance. The UC cheerleaders and dancers helped line the girls up and everyone made their way onto the field. Fans helped cheer on the girls as they performed their special halftime routine.
"Everyone was so impressed with how well all of the cheerleaders and dancers performed the routine at halftime," said Director of Marketing, Jaime Juenger. "It was awesome to see over 500 girls cover the entire length of the football field performing with our spirit squads. It was such a fun day for everyone!"
