UCATS Donor Spotlight

UCATS Donor of the Day
Brianna Roth

First UC Memory:
My first UC memory is visiting the campus on a rainy Thursday when the "bubbles" still existed on campus. I remember leaving knowing that this was the school for me!

Favorite Bearcats Athlete:
My most recent favorite student athlete was Mardy Gilyard. I enjoyed watching him every football season and he always made the game exciting for the fans.

Favorite UC football moment:
My favorite Bearcats football moment is winning against Pittsburgh at Heinz field in the last few seconds of the game although it was very cold and snowy. But this past homecoming comes to a close second. My then boyfriend decided that UC's homecoming was the perfect day to propose to me. It was a very exciting day being able to say yes to marrying my best friend and fellow Bearcat. It was perfect!

First UC Memory:
Walking with my Dad up the walk into the Armory Fieldhouse to watch the Bearcat basketball team.  That team included Oscar Robertson.  The crowd noise and the fieldhouse with the curved concrete ceiling seemed immense to me.

Favorite Bearcats Athlete:
Connor Barwin - what a team player!  He switched positions on the football team, from offense to defense to help the team, and then walked-on the basketball team because there were so few scholarship players.  To me, he is a big time Bearcat.

Favorite UC football moment:

The victory over Syracuse at Nippert in Nov. 2008 when the fans celebrated the Big East title and BCS bowl game by covering the field with oranges after the game.

First UC Memory:
I was 8 years old and my brother played football for Xavier. UC was playing Xavier and my parents took me to Nippert to see the game. I loved Xavier back then, but I knew there was something neat about being on that great big UC campus.

Favorite Bearcats Athlete:
My favorite is Ronnie Shannon. Most people don't know who he was, but I remember watching him play against Kentucky and Mo Williams, the great Kentucky running back, who ran through all of the UC defenders, except Ronnie. Ronnie would knock his stiff arm down and slam him to the ground. He was so tough. This is how he tackled everyone and nobody got past Ronnie Shannon.

Favorite UC football moment:
I have to give you 2: the first is when we were playing Wisconsin at Nippert, and Wisconsin was #8 in the country; we stopped Ron Dayne on 4th down to win the game. The second is when Tony Pike hit Armon Binns for the TD to beat Pitt.

Favorite Bearcats Athlete:

No doubt about it, the UC vs Pitt game at Pitt (Heinz Field) in 2009 when UC came from behind (at one point down 31-10) to win 45-44.  What a game.  My family and I were there and I will never forget that game.
