LaRita Wilcher, an 13-year collegiate coaching veteran, enters her third season under head coach Jamelle Elliott. Wilcher serves as the staff's recruiting coordinator.
Wilcher spent the 2008-09 season at Louisiana Tech, helping the Lady Techsters to a 21-13 mark and the eighth Western Athletic Conference regular season title in the last nine seasons. The Lady Techsters were selected to play in the Women's National Invitational Tournament, advancing to the second round.
Prior to Louisiana Tech, Wilcher forged an impressive stint at South Alabama where she helped the Lady Jaguars program take giant strides in the Sun Belt Conference. Wilcher served as an assistant coach at USA since 2002 where she was instrumental in helping lead the Jaguars to four winning seasons, two Sun Belt regular season titles and two postseason appearances. In her first two seasons as an assistant coach at South Alabama, the Jaguars won the Sun Belt Conference West Division regular season title and advanced to the first round of the WNIT.
Wilcher was instrumental in recruiting and signing 2004 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Whitney Woodard and 2005 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year JoAnna Williams. During her six seasons at South Alabama, the Jaguars recorded a mark of 103-74, a stark turnaround from the six years prior to Wilcher's arrival, in which the team posted a 63-103 record.
Wilcher served for one season as an assistant coach at New Mexico State (2001-02), and got her start at Division II Lewis University (1998-2001) in her hometown of Chicago.
Wilcher earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Long Beach State in 1998 where she played one year for the 49ers after transferring from Lewis University.
Wilcher and her husband Eric have a four-year-old son, Eric James Wilcher.
