CHICAGO, Ill. - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team (15-14, 6-10) was defeated by No. 18 DePaul (21-9, 9-7), 73-51, on Monday evening at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Sophomore forward Jeanise Randolph (Calumet City, Ill./Thornton Fractional North) set a season-high with 14 points and paced three scorers in double-figures.
Joining Randolph was Dayeesha Hollins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods/Michigan) with 13 points, followed by Bjonee Reaves (San Bernardino, Calif./Cajon) with 12.
The Bearcats struggled to contain DePaul leading scorer Anna Martin, who shot 15-of-19 from the floor en route to 36 points.
Cincinnati started with an 11-4 lead, with four players contributing points to the board, but Jasmine Penny gave DePaul the narrow 14-13 lead and the Blue Demons did not give up the lead. The hosts built the margin up to nine, 29-20, before ending the half with a 29-22 lead.
UC went on a 7-0 in the first two minutes of the second half to knot it at 29, but DePaul regained the lead less than a minute later and steadily built its lead to double-digits, 44-33, with 12:38 on the clock. The Bearcats struggled to get any offense going, while the Blue Demons shot a daunting 70.8 percent (17-24) in the second half - the highest shooting percentage UC has faced all season - to build its advantage to as much as 25.
The Bearcats will travel to Hartford, Conn., for the 2012 BIG EAST Championship on Friday, March 2. UC will be seeded 11 and will face No. 14 seed Marquette on Friday at 8 p.m.
