Women's Basketball Knocks Off Rutgers 56-48|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati used a second-half rally to defeat BIG EAST Conference foe Rutgers 56-48, on senior day Saturday inside Fifth Third Arena.
UC hit eight of 12 free throws in the final 2:11 to seal the victory, the program's first over Rutgers. Lesha Dunn (Toronto, Ontario/Trinity Valley CC), the team's lone senior, was honored in a pregame ceremony on the court.
Cincinnati (12-16, 4-11 BIG EAST) snapped a nine-game losing streak against RU and earned its first ever win over the Scarlet Knights (15-13, 6-9 BIG EAST). The Bearcats have won three in-a-row for the second time this season and have won four of their past five games.
Rutgers held its lone lead of the night at 14-13 with 9:59 left in the first half. From there, UC held a 43-34 scoring advantage and pushed a 27-21 halftime lead to a 10-point advantage, 40-30, with 11:02 remaining.
The Scarlet Knights used an 18-11 run over the next 8:50 to knot things up at 48 apiece with 2:12 left in the contest. UC closed the door with an 8-0 run from the charity stripe in the final 2:11 to pick up the 56-48 win. UC has held 14 of its opponents under the 54-point barrier this season.
Three Bearcats finished in double figures for the third straight game, led by Dayeesha Hollins' (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods/Michigan) 17 points. The junior has finished in double digits 22 times in 2012-13 and 73 times in her career. Hollins also had four assists and three steals.
Dunn also found double digits, hitting for 14 along with seven rebounds. Tiffany Turner (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) poured in 11 and nearly finished off the double-double with her game-high nine rebounds along with all four of UC's blocks. Alexis Durley (Houston, Texas/Andy Dekaney) added eight points and six boards.
The Bearcats held a 27-21 lead at the half after shooting almost 45 percent (.444) during the opening 20 minutes. Hollins' 11 led all players with UC forcing 16 turnovers and eight steals.
UC closes out the regular season Monday night at Marquette with the Bearcats and Golden Eagles will tip at 8 p.m. ET. The BIG EAST Championship begins on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
