Cincinnati-Iowa State Postgame Quotes|

Iowa State at Cincinnati
UC head coach Jamelle Elliot:
"They are a good team, a top 20 team in the country, firing from all cylinders. One thing I've been able to count on since I have been here is our defense and they really put a number on our defense with their ball movement and their ability to knock down three point shots. (Hallie) Christofferson she is just a tough match up for us, inside and outside.
But at the end of the day they had our number tonight, we were ready to play leaving the locker room to start the game, I thought we had the confidence. We knew we had to play a special type of basketball to have a chance to beat them, unfortunately we missed some shots early that could've sent that momentum either way. Once we missed those shots we started to question ourselves a little bit, and not that we didn't still want to compete but it's so much easier when shots to go down on defense and be amped to guard. When you miss those tough shots sometimes it takes the air out of you a little bit and I think that happened to us.
We knew our biggest shot was to get the ball inside and the start of the second half we went inside to Jeanise (Randolph) on four straight possessions and on the four straight possessions we had three turnovers. So we tried to execute our game plan and at the end of the day I tip my hat off to Iowa State. They did what they were supposed to do, came in here and made shots. There are still some confident guys in our locker room that want to get better. We have some time off before we go to Las Vegas in the next eight or nine days and we are looking forward to getting in the gym and getting better."
On what she does when she sees the team energy level drops:
"Well you just have to stay and I am feeling it too but I can't let them see it. I have to look at them in the eyes and like I told Jeanise - you're our senior post player and I am going to continue to go at you and you can make that shot. You have proven that you can make that shot and the first game of the year you had a double-double, so I just have to continue to look at them and they say that I believe in them.
I still think we haven't lost our confidence, yes we get a little deflated at times when someone makes a big three and we are working our tail off to not give up three's. But at the end of the day we still have a lot of good basketball to play and I think I have 13 guys that want to get better and I am looking forward to getting back on the practice to fix some of the things that we are capable of fixing."
#33, Jeanise Randolph, F
"We just had mental mistakes. We weren't making shots that we normally make. Our energy fell off in the second half. We have to learn on how to fix our mistakes in the moment. It is a concentration and focus thing."
On if there was more of an effort to get closer to Christofferson after she started making threes:
"Basically, we were trying to keep her from touching the ball. She made more three pointers tonight than normal. She usually posts up more. We tried to switch up our defense by switching off on her. I think if we could have focused earlier and played earlier, we would have done a better job. We just weren't focusing tonight as much."
#15, Alexis Durley, G
"I think they were hitting shots and we weren't hitting shots. I think turnovers had a lot to do with it, they scored 19 points off of turnovers."
On if there was more of an effort to get closer to Christofferson after started making threes:
"We knew she wasn't going to go scoreless. She is a good player. We knew she was going to get her points, but we had some mental mistakes to give her some easy baskets. Sometimes they were too easy for her."
