DAYTON, OHIO -- Tenishia Benson (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the University of Cincinnati (4-2) but the Bearcats dropped a 69-53 decision to the University of Dayton (5-2) at the UD Arena on Thursday night.
The Bearcats struggled offensively for the game, shooting 34.6 percent from the floor and not scoring a basket until the 13:42 mark of the first half. Cincinnati went on a 6-0 run and stayed in the game, tying the score at 10 and again at 13 with 9:38 left in the half. The Flyers went on an 18-5 run to end the half with a 31-18 lead. Carla Jacobs (Cleveland, Ohio/Regina) hit two three pointers and lead all UC scorers in the first half with eight points.
"We weren't ready to play in the first half and we were breaking down in every phase," said head coach J. Kelley Hall. "We changed our defense in the second half and when we finally got them to miss, we didn't rebound. We just weren't focused and they outhustled us."
The Bearcats got as close as 11 points in the second half, 38-27, with 15:46 to play, but the Flyers landed three three-pointers over the next four minutes and pushed out to a 24 point lead that Cincinnati was unable to overcome. The Bearcats were outrebounded, 43-38, and gave up 28 points in the paint for the game.
Kahla Roudebush (Noblesville, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) scored 13 points for CIncinnati while three Flyers scored in double figures, led by Nikki Oakland's 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Cincinnati will play at Xavier in a 1 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 in the Skyline Chili Women's Crosstown Shootout Presented by Cintas.
