LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A tough defensive effort by Fordham limited the University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team to just 40 points during the championship game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up as the Bearcats fell 56-40 Sunday evening in Las Vegas.
The Bearcats shot just 34 percent (17-50) during the contest while Fordham fired at a 41.2 percent (21-51) clip. Cincinnati also struggled on the boards, as Fordham out-rebounded UC 42-26. The Rams 11 offensive rebounds led to 16 second-chance points while UC had just one in the contest.
Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) led the Bearcats in scoring with nine points on 3-of-7 shooting. The senior guard was 3-of-5 from behind the three-point line while also grabbing two steals and dishing out one assist.

Fordham was able to break open the scoring during the first half thanks to a 14-3 run to close out the final 7:36 of the half. UC’s only scoring during the span came from Chelsea Jamison (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), who added a lay-up and a free throw.

UC committed just five turnovers in the opening half but were limited to just 28 percent shooting while also being out-rebounded 25-13.
Cincinnati was able to briefly swing the momentum during the second half, as the defense held Fordham scoreless for a more than four and a half minute span. UC was able to tally five points during the span, cutting the lead to 33-24 with 14:02 left in the contest. However, the Rams answered with two straight lay-ups, pushing the lead back to 13.
