Cincinnati vs. Morehead State
December 4, 2013
Fifth Third Arena
Cincinnati Head Coach Jamelle Elliott
On the big offensive night:
"We understood where our shots needed to come from in our offense. We took nice rhythm shots. Everybody shot the ball with a lot of confidence. We had three of our guys score in double figures, all three seniors. When the seniors are setting the tone like that, it's hard to get beat. Defensively, we continue to get better and hold teams under their average, but today our offense was clicking. I can't say enough about Bianca Quisenberry. She was very active on both sides of the floor and had 13 rebounds. Everyone did a great job and we had a lot of fun playing tonight."
On the seniors:
"I am counting on them to do something every night to help us win whether it is on the offensive or defensive side. They did that. Dayeesha (Hollins) came out and really set the tone for us. Kayla (Cook) hit some shots off the dribble and off the catch. It is great to see her making shots. Obviously, Jeanise Randolph really made her presence felt inside. She didn't dribble a lot and was poised and confident. When you play with a lot of confidence and believe in what you are doing, the results are what we had tonight. Hopefully we continue to do that throughout the season."
On holding Morehead State to only 44 points:
"We knew they were going to make us work hard for 30 seconds every defensive possession with that motion. We kept guys in front of us. That was probably our best defensive effort in a really long time. Our defense always sets the tone. Today we ran a lot of good half-court offense. We like to run a lot, but today we knew we were going to score in the half-court offense and we did that."
On taking this performance into Sunday's game:
"We want to enjoy this one. We have a day off tomorrow to get back and focus on our school work and get healthy. They can get into the training room and get in the ice bath. We had a long stretch with that trip out to Las Vegas so we will get back at it Friday and Saturday. We have a long bus trip up to Youngstown State and we will get ready to go Sunday afternoon."
Cincinnati Redshirt Senior Guard Dayeesha Hollins
On the seniors taking the lead after the tough loss to Fordham:
"We just had to come back more aggressive after losing that game in Las Vegas."
On the team scoring a season high in points:
"I would have to say being on the attack all of the time and being confident every time we picked the ball up had a huge part in that, as well as looking for what's open."
On the strong defensive effort tonight:
"Motion offenses can be very difficult (to defend), especially when they can do whatever they want, they can run whatever cuts they want so we had to be really focused on cuts. I think us being focused helped us on the defensive end in the long run."
