Cincinnati head coach Jamelle Elliott
On the team improving offensively through each game:
"It makes it a lot easier when you have multiple scoring weapons on the floor. We've got guys that are consistently knocking down shots from the outside and that all starts off with Jeanise Randolph establishing our points in the paint. When we pass it in to her, she is forcing double teams, she is forcing more than one guy to focus on her, she is making the right pass out of the double team and the guards are knocking down shots."
On Jeanise Randolph continuing to perform even after being conference and national player of the week:
"We have been talking a lot about consistency and Jeanise is a double-double waiting to happen every night. Unfortunately, she has been unhealthy a lot, going through a lot of nagging injuries and she is the healthiest she has been in a long time. Now she understands what it takes to be consistent. When we pass it in to her one-on-one, she is going to score and now she's able to pass the ball a lot better and find the open guy."
On Dayeesha Hollins scoring her 1,000 career point as a Bearcat:
"Dayeesha is special. She's finally healthy for the first time all season after having off-season knee surgery. She is playing with more poise, she is still quick, but she understands that she has to have wide vision, knowing when to attack and knowing when to kick. She only had two turnovers tonight, with 25 points and seven assists, so our seniors are really stepping up with her. Jeanise (Randolph) and Kayla (Cook) gave us great minutes and production. We are going to be a hard team to match up against if we continue to have multiple weapons on the floor."
On how important it was for them to get off to the fast start that they did with this being their second game in three days:
"It was very important. Akron did a good job I tip my hat off to (Akron head coach) Jodi (Kest) and her team. They are a team that scores 83 points per game and we're happy that we held them under their average by 13 points. They knew we wanted to get out and score in transition. They really took that away and they really forced us to score in the half-court and we did that. We can't be all transition, when teams take that away we have to be able to score in the half court and we did that tonight."
On what the key was to holding off Akron from coming back:
"Staying poised and understanding that when we needed a big basket knowing who we wanted to take the shot, Akron is a very good team and good teams are not just going to roll over. You have to continue to get stops and scores and we did that."
On this being their fourth consecutive win and preparing for Xavier:
"Well we are going to enjoy this one tonight a then much needed day off. We didn't have a day off in between our last two games against Ohio State and today, so a much needed rest day tomorrow and we will get back at it on Thursday preparing for Xavier. It's a great game for the city of Cincinnati and women's sports. We're hoping that we get a lot of high school girls and boys to come out and really support the city of Cincinnati and the rivalry we have with Xavier."
Cincinnati forward Jeanise Randolph
On how confident she feels about her game:
"I feel very confident right now. I think it is because of the team. They are putting me in a good position so I am very excited."
On really motivation entering the game:
"Yeah. We were 0-4 against Ohio teams last year. We were just trying to beat our record from last year and prove something tonight."
On having four players in double-figures:
"It is very important. It helps. It is easier and less pressure. It is a good team. I am excited that everyone is scoring points. It takes a lot of pressure off of our backs."
On how tough it is to shut down Akron's two dynamic scorers:
"It is very tough. They are going to get their shot no matter what. We just have to do something to counter it. They are two really good players and it is hard, but we have to do what we have to do."
On having confidence going into Xavier on Saturday:
"We feel very confident, but we are not going to to take them lightly."
