Cincinnati Game Notes

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team (9-5) returns home to resume BIG EAST play against USF on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at Fifth Third Arena. The game will be streamed live on GoBEARCATS.com with Scott Waldrop on the call.

Bearcats Against the Bulls
Cincinnati has the 14-7 series advantage against USF and currently owns a two-game winning streak against the Bulls. Last season, it defeated the Bulls by one point, 57-56, in Tampa. Graduated senior Shareese Ulis scored 21 points and Bjonee Reaves hit the tying and game-winning free throws with six seconds left to give the Bearcats the victory.

Last Time Out
UC won the Hilton Garden Inn Hokie Classic by defeating Virginia Tech, 66-55, and High Point, 62-40.

Dayeesha Hollins netted a season-high 26 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-2 from behind the arc and 10-of-11 from the free throw line. She also hit a half-court buzzer beater to close out the first half with the Bearcats winning, 34-21.

UC held its largest lead, 56-32, with 7:29 left, but the Hokies’ Latorri Hines-Allen stepped up and scored eight in a row during VT’s 16-2 run to make it 58-48 at the 2:43 mark. But it was too little too late for Virginia Tech, who finally settled with the 66-55 score.

After combining for only one point in the first half, Dayeesha Hollins and Bjonee Reaves led Cincinnati with 14 points each in the 62-42 win against High Point. Sophomore Jeanise Randolph put up her best numbers this season after missing the first 11 games of the season due to injury. She finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals in just 18 minutes.

The Panthers’ 40 points were the second lowest points the Bearcats have allowed this season. It allowed just 22 points against South Dakota State on Nov. 24.

Scouting the Bulls
USF is 8-6 after going 1-1 at the St. Peter’s Holiday Classic in Jersey City, N.J. on Dec. 28 and 29. The Bulls lost to Dayton, 73-63, in the tournament opener, but rebounded with a 68-52 win against the host, St. Peter’s. Its game against UC is its BIG EAST opener. The Bulls are led by Jasmine Wynne with 15.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg, who has scored in double-figures in 10 straight games. Head coach Jose Fernandez is 178-174 and is in his 12th season with the Bulls.

The Bearcats travel to Piscataway, N.J. to take on Rutgers on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on the BIG EAST Network.
