CINCINNATI- Junior Dayeesha Hollins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods/Michigan) was named to the 2012 Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Hollins was one of six student-athletes to earn honors following the three-day tournament. The awards consisted of one most valuable player selection and five all-tournament selections. MVP honors went to Shafontaye Myers of Alabama. Joining Hollins in earning all-tournament honors were Monica DeAngelis (Hawai'i), Cleandra Roberts (LIU Brooklyn), Alicia Mitchum (Alabama) and Kamilah Martin (Hawai'i).
Hollins averaged 15.3 points and 4.3 rebounds during the three games. The junior was 21-of-28 from the free throw line and 3-of-9 from long range. She added five assists and two steals. She finished one-point shy of her season-high scoring total with 24 points against Hawai'i.
The highlight of Hollins' weekend came when she hit a lay-up as time expired to force overtime against Hawai'i. UC was trailing by two points with 0.5 seconds on the clock before Hollins' heroic shot followed a full-court heave from Alexis Durley (Houston, Texas/Andy Dekaney). The score capped a comeback effort that saw the Bearcats erase a 10-point deficit in the final 2:44 of the contest.
Hollins added nine points during the final 1:08 of the contest. She was 4-for-4 from the free throw line and hit a three with 22 seconds left before her game-tying shot.
