Feb. 17, 2014
CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati women’s basketball senior forward Jeanise Randolph (Chicago, Ill./Thornton Fractional North) has been named both American Athletic Conference and College Sports Madness Player of the Week as announced Monday afternoon.
It marks the second time this season Randolph has been the winner of both awards in the same week. Randolph was previously honored on Dec. 16 after her performance during a 64-49 win over Ohio State.
Randolph helped the Bearcats earn back-to-back conference wins over Memphis and Temple for the first time since last season when UC picked up wins over Providence (Feb. 23) and Rutgers (Mar. 2).
For the week Randolph paced a double-double, averaging 18.5 points and 10 rebounds. The senior shot 61.5 percent (16-26) from the floor and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the free throw line. She also collected four steals and swatted five shots.
During a 65-49 win over Memphis, Randolph surged in the second half with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Seven of her 11 rebounds also came in the final 20 minutes as she picked up her ninth double-double of the year.
Randolph narrowly missed another double-double during a 55-53 road win over Temple, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. Shooting 7-of-11 from the field, Randolph also collected two steals and four blocks while playing all 40 minutes.
The Bearcats will look to make it three straight on Wednesday when they host USF inside Fifth Third Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be available on ESPN3.
