Bearcats Earn No. 11 Seed In 2012 BIG EAST Championship|

CINCINNATI - The University of Cincinnati women's basketball team earned the 11th seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Conference Women's Basketball Championship. The tournament begins Friday, March 2 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Bearcats will face the No. 14 seed Marquette Golden Eagles on March 2 at 8 p.m.
The Bearcats first-round match-up can be followed on the BIG EAST's website through their official streaming video platform, BIGEAST.tv. The game can also be heard on GoBEARCATS.com with Tom Gelehrter calling the action.
This will mark the third time that Cincinnati (15-14, 6-9 BIG EAST) will face Marquette (13-16, 4-12 BIG EAST) this season. The Bearcats won the first two meetings of the regular-season, 62-54 in Milwaukee and 60-46 at Fifth Third Arena.
The Bearcats have earned the most total wins under head coach Jamelle Elliott with 15 and are tied for the most BIG EAST wins since 2006-07 with six. The 11th seed is the highest the Bearcats have been seeded in the BIG EAST Conference Women's Championship since 2006-07 where they were also an 11 seed.
The Bearcats are led by Dayeesha Hollins who averages 14.4 points per game. Senior Bjonee Reaves also averages in double digits with 13.4 points per game. Tiffany Turner currently leads the team in rebounding, grabbing 5.8 rebounds per game.
The 2012 Championship field is based on regular-season league records, with the highest four seeds earning double byes into the quarterfinals on March 4. Teams finishing in spots 5-8 earned first-round byes, while seeds 9-16 will begin play in the first round on March 2.
The winner of the Cincinnati versus Marquette first round tilt will advance to play No. 6 seed Rutgers in the second round on March 3 at 8 p.m. The game will be televised regionally on the BIG EAST Network.
