CINCINNATI – Former University of Cincinnati women’s basketball player Regina Williams was inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame of the Cincinnati Public Schools Thursday night at Withrow High School. The event was presented by Activities Beyond the Classroom.
Williams was one of 14 honored at the event. The group included eight athletes, two coaches and four posthumous inductees. The former Withrow High School standout graduated in 1984.
Williams played for the Bearcats from 1984-1989, finishing her career ranked 11th on UC’s all-time scoring list with 1,237 points. Her 220 career steals place her fifth on that all-time list. Williams ranks fourth on Cincinnati’s single-season field goal percentage list, shooting 54.9 percent during the 1986-87 season.
Williams’ performance against Xavier on January 28, 1987 still ranks as one of the best in UC’s history, going 15-for-17 from the floor. The 15 field goals tied for fourth most in a single game while the 88.2 field goal percentage is the fifth best mark.
Williams led the team in rebounding (5.9) and steals (2.39) during the 1986-87 season. She was also the team steals leader (2.14) in 1987-88 and the assists leader in 1988-89.
