CINCINNATI – A pair of Bearcats legends will be enshrined in the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame on May 19 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Dick Dallmer, a member of the UC Athletics Hall of Fame and 1,000 point club, and Laurie Pirtle, the all-time winningest coach in UC women’s basketball history, will join a class of 16 current and former players and coaches whose noteworthy contributions to the sport will be honored.
Selections are made by a panel of Ohio college All-Americans, NBA Hall of Fame players and Ohio high school and college coaches, among others.
Dallmer earned team MVP honors in each of his three seasons with the Bearcats. He closed his career in 1950 as UC’s all-time scoring leader with 1,098 points, despite not leading the team in scoring in any of his three seasons. A team co-captain as a junior and senior, Dallmer was a first-team all-Mid-American Conference selection in 1950. He was the first Bearcat to earn all-America honors in basketball after earning honorable mention in 1948 and 1949 and third-team laurels in 1950. He was selected by Philadelphia in the 1950 NBA draft and was inducted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame in 1984.
Pirtle is the women’s basketball program’s all-time winningest coach with a career coaching record of 393-317. During her 21-year tenure from 1986-2007, the Bearcats won 310 games and advanced to postseason play more times than under any other head coach. In her final 11 years, she guided UC to 10 winning seasons, five 20-plus win campaigns and eight postseason appearances, including seven consecutive from 1997-2004. She was named the Metro Conference Coach of the Year in 1988 after transforming a 6-22 program into an 18-11 team in just two years. Her squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament on four occasions, reaching the second round in 2001-02.
The Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum recognizes outstanding players and coaches at all levels who inspire Ohio’s basketball future. The 2012 Class will be formally inducted May 19, 2012 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
