CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati head women’s basketball coach Jamelle Elliott joined the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Center for Coaching Excellence (CCE) for a two-and-a-half-day elite leadership training program conducted in partnership with Columbia University from June 8-10, 2011.
“I can’t think of a better way professionally to spend two-and-a-half days,” Elliott said. “The conference concentrated on a variety of topics that are important not only to head coaches and our roles as leaders, but also to the overall state of women’s basketball and what we can do to continue to help our game grow. Thanks to the WBCA and Columbia University, I now feel like I have additional tools that will allow me to continue to grow as a head coach and a leader.”
Elliott was one of 28 college women’s basketball coaches to complete the invitation-only event, which capitalized on the resources of Columbia University, one of the world's leading research universities, and the WBCA. The CCE provided an unparalleled, exclusive learning experience for the WBCA Board of Directors and NCAA Division I conference captains by utilizing collaborative and interactive learning sessions along with lectures and panel discussions featuring experts in college athletics. Additionally, it provided the college women's basketball coaches with valuable networking opportunities with their peers and top industry leaders.
Cathie T. Siders, a clinical psychologist, organizational consultant and executive coach, facilitated group-learning sessions. Other sessions featured panel discussions from a wide variety of leaders from both the college athletics industry and other sectors of industry.
Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls.
