Women's Basketball Announces 2012-13 BIG EAST Opponents|
June 13, 2012
CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati and the BIG EAST Conference announced the home and away league schedule for the 2012-13 women’s basketball season today (June 13). The Bearcats’ conference slate will include seven 2012 NCAA Tournament teams, including home matchups against NCAA national semifinalist Connecticut and second-round participant DePaul. Cincinnati’s repeat opponent for the second year in-a-row will be Marquette, in addition to NCAA tournament qualifier Rutgers.
In addition to the Huskies and Blue Demons, the Bearcats will also welcome Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova and WNIT semifinalist Syracuse to Fifth Third Arena.
The BIG EAST had 12 of its women’s basketball teams continue to the postseason a year ago with eight teams selected to the NCAA Championship and four to the WNIT.
The format for regular-season league play is a 16-game schedule. Each team plays 16 conference games – hosting six opponents at home and playing at six opponents, while having two repeat opponents where both a home and away game will be played. Each member has a total of eight home and eight away games. The rationale in determining the repeat opponents is to provide additional quality television inventory, for competitive issues/RPI implications as well as geographic rivalries/minimizing travel costs.
UC will travel to face six additional league opponents this season, including NCAA runner-up Notre Dame, as well as NCAA tournament participants Georgetown, Louisville and St. John’s. It will also travel to Pittsburgh and USF.
The complete 2012-13 UC women’s basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
