BIG EAST Announces 2011-12 Women's Basketball Opponents|
June 14, 2011
CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati and BIG EAST Conference announced the home and away league schedule for the 2011-12 women’s basketball season. The Bearcats’ conference slate will include nine 2011 NCAA Tournament teams, including home matchups against NCAA national runner-up Notre Dame and Sweet 16 participants Georgetown and Louisville. Cincinnati’s repeat opponent will be Marquette.
In addition to the Fighting Irish, Hoyas and Cardinals, the Bearcats will also welcome USF, St. John’s, Pittsburgh and West Virginia to Fifth Third Arena.
The format for league play is a 16-game schedule. Each team plays 16 conference games - seven opponents home only, seven opponents away only and one repeat opponent, home and away. Each member has a total of eight home and eight away games.
The rationale in determining the repeat opponents is to provide additional television inventory, for competitive issues/RPI implications as well as geographic rivalries/minimizing travel costs.
UC will travel to face eight league opponents this season, including national semifinalist Connecticut, DePaul, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Villanova.
The complete 2011-12 UC women’s basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
