CINCINNATI — University of Cincinnati head women’s basketball coach J. Kelley Hall announced the signing of junior college forward Elisa Shoate (Spiro, Okla./University of Arkansas - Fort Smith). Shoate will join the Bearcats for the 2008-09 season.
Adding Shoate increases the incoming class to five as four talented recruits, Val Schuster (Wausau, Wis./ Wausau Newman Catholic), Katie Bushman (Phillips, Wis./Phillips High School), Jaquandria "G.G." Williams (New Iberia, La./ New Iberia High School), and Shanasa Sanders (Jacksonville, Fla./Ribault Senior High School), were signed in the early signing period.
"Elisa will fit in well with our team and we are excited she has decided to join our program," said Hall. "I believe Elisa will develop into a great player because of her talent level, and her amazing work ethic."
At 5-11, Shoate is an athletic frontcourt player who played in every game at UA Fort Smith last season. She was third on the team with a 13.9 scoring average, shooting 43.3 percent from the floor. Shoate connected on 56 three-pointers (second on the team) and finished 25th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage with 39.7 percent. She also pulled down 7.1 rebounds a game and was third on the team with 69 steals.
"What we like about Elisa is her versatility," said Hall. "She has the ability to score in the paint, and from long range, yet she is defensive-minded and is a great rebounder."
Shoate earned first-team all-conference and all-region during her time at UA Fort Smith and helped guide the Lady Lions to a 34-2 record last season. The Lady Lions won the Bi-State Conference East Division championship, the NJCAA Region II tournament championship, and finished third in the NJCAA national tournament during Shoate’s sophomore season.
