Nine of the 18 league games will be played inside Fifth Third Arena over the course of the 10-week season. Eight of the 18 conference games will be against teams that reached the post season last year.
In addition, television broadcast information was made available for several games. The Bearcats will play on ESPN2 at home against UConn on Sunday, Jan. 25 with tipoff set for 3 p.m. Complete television and streaming designations, including contests broadcast on ESPN3 and the American Digital Network will be announced at a later date.
“We are really looking forward to our second season of American Conference play,” noted head coach Jamelle Elliott. “I think we have some great teams coming to Fifth Third Arena that our fans will enjoy watching, including defending national champion UConn.”
The schedule format for the 11-team league this season has the Bearcats playing eight teams (East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa, UCF, UConn and USF) twice and two teams just once, hosting Tulane and traveling to SMU.
Cincinnati opens the conference season on Sunday, Dec. 28, hosting Tulane in their only meeting of the season. The Bearcats then hit the road to face Tulsa on New Year’s Eve.
UC returns home on Saturday, Jan. 3 to take on Temple and then faces Houston on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 7 before facing UCF on Saturday, Jan. 10 at home.
The Bearcats play back-to-back road contests on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Memphis and at Temple respectively.
Following the road trip, UC will enjoy a three-game homestand starting with a matchup against UConn (Jan. 25) that will be televised on ESPN2 before facing Memphis (Jan. 28) and Houston (Jan. 31). Cincinnati will then face off with UConn for the second time in a 10-day span on Feb. 3 in Storrs, Conn. From there Cincinnati travels to USF on Saturday, Feb. 7
The Bearcats play their only home game during an 18-day span on Feb. 10 against East Carolina. UC is then on the road against UCF on Valentine’s Day (Feb. 14) before returning the trip to East Carolina on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Cincinnati winds down the conference season hosting USF (Feb. 24), traveling to SMU (Feb. 28) and facing Tulsa (March 2) in Cincinnati.
“Last season was unique with several conference opponents we hadn’t played before, but this year we are more familiar with the recently added teams in the league and excited about the addition of Tulsa, Tulane and East Carolina to our schedule,” continued Elliott. “We are looking forward to once again having another American Conference season filled with competitive games.”
