CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team invited members of the UC faculty and staff to observe an hour of practice on Tuesday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena. It was the first year the team has hosted its own open practice for University employees.
“We appreciate all that our UC faculty and staff does to support the campus, our students, our student-athletes and attendance at the games,” said Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing Leslie Wenert. “We feel this was a great way for folks to get to know our staff and program more by hearing from our coaches and watching some of practice.”
Head coach Jamelle Elliott and members of her staff addressed those in attendance prior to the start of practice. Elliott spoke on academics and ‘representing the C,’ while assistant coaches LaRita Wilcher and Aaron Swinson addressed recruiting and game preparation/scouting, respectively. The Bearcats then took the floor and began their regular practice routine, while Wenert held a raffle of UC athletics apparel for guests.
“I thought it was fantastic and enlightening to hear from the coaches on practice, studying, practice, practice, classes and more practice,” said Student Health Center Director of Business Affairs Cathy Castillo. “I am impressed with how hard these ladies work.”
Attendees were offered refreshments and gift bags prior to departing the event.
The Bearcats will play an exhibition game against Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. prior to opening their 2011-12 campaign against IPFW on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
