CINCINNATI – For the second consecutive season, the University of Cincinnati women’s basketball team will open its season with an exhibition contest against Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena.
The game is free to the public and is the first chance for fans to check out this year’s squad. Head coach Jamelle Elliott is entering her third season at the helm of the program and welcomes two new additions to her coaching staff in Katie Rokus and Aaron Swinson.
The Bearcats return a pair of BIG EAST all-freshmen selections in Kayla Cook (South Webster, Ohio/South Webster) and Jeanise Randolph (Calumet City, Ill./Thornton Fractional North), who averaged 8.1 and 5.7 points, respectively. The duo will look to replace last year’s leading scorer Shareese Ulis, who averaged 13.7 points per game in 2010-11, and sixth-year graduated senior Shelly Bellman.
Cincinnati native Dayeesha Hollins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) will don the red and black for the first time after sitting out last season following her transfer from Michigan, where she was named to the All-Big Ten Freshmen Team after averaging 12.0 points and 3.4 rebounds. UC will also see action from newcomers Lesha Dunn (Toronto, Ontario/Trinity Valley Community College), Talequia Hamilton (Huntington, W. Va./Huntington), Chelsea Jamison (Indianapolis, Ind./Broad Ripple) and Alyesha Lovett (Newark, N.J./Malcolm X Shabazz).
Cincinnati opens its regular season next Friday, Nov. 11 against IPFW at 7 p.m. in Fifth Third Arena.
