CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s golf team opened its spring 2013 season on Monday at the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge at Shula’s Golf Club in Miami Lakes, Fla. The Bearcats played two rounds for a total of 36 holes and finished the day in 15th place. Junior Olivia Dose (Goteborg, Sweden/Goteborg Hogre Samskola) led the team with 158 strokes.

UC posted rounds of 321 and 317 for a total of 638 strokes. The Bearcats find themselves only one stroke behind both Jacksonville and Illinois State and three strokes behind Missouri-Kansas City. North Carolina State leads the pack of competitors with a 14 over par (293-297=590).

“It was a rough day for the Bearcats” said head coach Janet Carl. “We are anxious for tomorrow and another chance to get back into fall form. We made improvements in the afternoon and played better than the scores show.”

Dose’s 158 strokes (80-78=158) put her in a tie for 55th place while the remaining four Bearcats finished within five strokes of each other. Senior Maria Roos (Uppsala Sweden/Mississippi State) finished second for UC (79-81=160), senior Alex Carl (Union, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) finished third (83-78=161), junior Andrea Malek (Tibro, Sweden/Klippans Gymnasiekola) finished fourth (82-80=162) and sophomore Mackenzie Moir rounded out the UC contention (80-85=165).

The Bearcats will tee off for the final round of the Sir Pizza Terrapin Challenge at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday morning from Miami Lakes, Fla.
