March 11, 2007
RIO VERDE, Ariz.---Hillery Wilson set a school and tournament record with a final round 68 to jump to a tie for third in the final rundown at the Rio Verde Invitational, which concluded on Sunday. Wilson broke her own UC record as well as the tournament record by a single shot.
Wilson's stellar play helped the Bearcats tie for ninth in the final team standings, two positions higher than the team held after Saturday's second round. Baylor bounced back from a round two deficit to snag the team title by three shots over Arkansas-Little Rock. Round two leader Toledo shot a 305 on Sunday to fade to third.
Wilson shot a 34 on both the front and back nine in securing the record. The junior's scorecard showed three birdies and just one bogey and the highlight, an eagle on the par-five ninth hole.
Sophomore Marianne Erb also finished the tournament on a high note, carding a final round 76 to secure a tie for 21st spot. Baylor's Allison Martin became the first player in tournament history to finish the event under-par as she finished with a minus-four total of 212.
The Bearcats return to the links with a busy stretch during Spring Break in just over a week. UC will compete in the USF-Waterlefe Invitational on March 19-20 before hosting the Cincinnati Spring Invitational March 23-24 in Crystal River, Fla.
